Mark 10:17-31
The Place Where We Are Right
by Yehuda Amichai
From the place where we are right
flowers will never grow
in the Spring.
The place where we are right
is hard and trampled
like a yard.
But doubts and loves
dig up the world
like a mole, a plough.
And a whisper will be heard in the place
where the ruined
house once stood.
“God is establishing God’s rulership over ‘the creation that God created” –Rhoads/Dewey
“It seems to me that Christians mangle this story in at least two ways. First, by acting as if it were not about money, and second, by acting as if it were only about money.” –Barbara Brown Taylor
“Cancer has kicked down the walls of my life. I cannot be certain I will walk my son to his elementary school someday or subject his love interests to cheerful scrutiny. I struggle to buy books for academic projects I fear I can’t finish for a perfect job I may be unable to keep…Cancer requires that I stumble around in the debris of dreams I thought I was entitled to and plans I didn’t realize I had made.” –Kate Bowler
